🔍 Overview

The Kedar Dome Expedition is a dream for mountaineers who seek a technical but achievable 6000+ meter summit. Towering at 6,831 meters above sea level, it stands as a majestic sibling to the sacred Kedarnath and Kedarnath Dome in the Gangotri Glacier region of Uttarakhand.

This expedition is the perfect step up for those with prior high-altitude experience, blending the thrill of rope techniques, glacier navigation, and snow climbing with the spiritual energy of the Garhwal Himalayas.

📅 Day-Wise Itinerary & Description

🗓️ Day 1: Arrival in Gangotri (3,048 m)

  • Drive from Dehradun/Haridwar

  • Registration, gear check, and acclimatization walk

  • Visit the Gangotri Temple

  • Overnight in guesthouse


🗓️ Day 2: Trek to Bhojwasa (3,800 m)

  • Trek through pine forests along the Bhagirathi River

  • First views of Bhagirathi peaks

  • Trek: 14 km | Duration: 6-7 hrs


🗓️ Day 3: Trek to Tapovan (4,400 m)

  • Cross Gaumukh Glacier, source of Ganga

  • Technical glacier terrain, incredible views of Mt. Shivling

  • Trek: 9 km | Duration: 5-6 hrs


🗓️ Day 4: Rest & Acclimatization at Tapovan

  • Training session: ropework, ice axe use, crampon practice

  • Explore Tapovan meadows

  • Prepare gear for base camp move


🗓️ Day 5: Tapovan to Kedar Dome Base Camp (4,800 m)

  • Traverse glacial moraines and snowfields

  • Establish base camp with equipment check

  • Trek: 5-6 km


🗓️ Day 6: Load Ferry to Advanced Base Camp (5,300 m)

  • Acclimatization & load-carry to ABC

  • Rope handling practice, crevasse rescue drill

  • Return to base camp


🗓️ Day 7: Move to ABC

  • Shift full setup to Advanced Base Camp

  • Prepare for summit push


🗓️ Day 8: Summit Camp Establishment (5,800 m)

  • Ascend further up the ridge

  • Final summit briefing

  • Duration: 5-6 hrs | Camp on snow


🗓️ Day 9: Summit Day – Kedar Dome (6,831 m)

  • Midnight start for summit push

  • Steep climb on ice, snow, and fixed rope sections

  • Witness panoramic views of Shivling, Bhagirathi, and Satopanth peaks

  • Return to base or ABC depending on conditions

  • Climb duration: 10–12 hrs


🗓️ Day 10: Reserve / Buffer Day


🗓️ Day 11–12: Descend to Gangotri

  • Retrace steps from base camp to Gangotri

  • Celebration dinner & certificate distribution


🗓️ Day 13: Departure from Gangotri

  • Transfer to Dehradun or onward destination
