🔍 Overview

Bhagirathi II is the second-highest summit among the Bhagirathi group of peaks, standing tall at 6,512 meters. It lies in the Gangotri Glacier region of the Garhwal Himalayas, surrounded by dramatic peaks like Shivling, Meru, and Thalay Sagar. Known for its steep ice and rock faces, this expedition is a technical Himalayan challenge, ideal for mountaineers aiming for alpine-style climbing in India.

The route includes crevasse-ridden glaciers, knife-edge ridges, and technical rope sections, making it one of the most rewarding and demanding expeditions in Uttarakhand.

📅 Day-Wise Itinerary & Description

🗓️ Day 1: Arrival at Gangotri (3,048 m)

  • Travel from Dehradun or Haridwar to Gangotri

  • Check-in, registration, and team briefing

  • Visit Gangotri Temple and gear check

  • Stay: Guesthouse


🗓️ Day 2: Acclimatization & Orientation

  • Trek to nearby ridges or trails for acclimatization

  • Rope techniques, gear handling sessions

  • Final expedition briefing by the lead climber


🗓️ Day 3: Trek to Bhojwasa (3,800 m)

  • Trail along Bhagirathi River through Chirbasa forest

  • Stunning views of Bhagirathi massif

  • Trek: 14 km | 6-7 hrs | Stay: Campsite


🗓️ Day 4: Trek to Nandanvan (4,400 m)

  • Cross the Gaumukh Glacier, source of Ganga

  • Trek over moraine and icy terrain

  • Trek: 8 km | Duration: 5 hrs


🗓️ Day 5: Rest Day at Nandanvan

  • Acclimatization hike & glacier safety drills

  • Rope training, knot practice, snow anchoring techniques


🗓️ Day 6: Move to Bhagirathi II Base Camp (4,800 m)

  • Trek over snowfields and technical glacier patches

  • Establish base camp below the western ridge

  • Camp on snow/moraine terrain


🗓️ Day 7: Load Ferry to Advanced Camp (5,300 m)

  • Acclimatization & load-carry to higher camp

  • Return to base for rest

  • Prepare for summit move


🗓️ Day 8: Shift to Advanced Camp

  • Full team moves to higher altitude

  • Practice technical climbing gear setup


🗓️ Day 9: Summit Camp Setup (5,800 m)

  • Establish final camp under summit ridge

  • Climb involves mixed rock-ice terrain


🗓️ Day 10: Summit Attempt (6,512 m)

  • Start climb around midnight

  • Rope-assisted snow and ice climbing

  • Reach summit ridge with breathtaking views of Shivling, Meru, Satopanth

  • Descend to ABC or Base depending on weather

  • Climb Duration: 10–14 hrs


🗓️ Day 11: Reserve / Buffer Day


🗓️ Day 12–13: Descend to Gangotri

  • Retrace the route via Nandanvan and Bhojwasa

  • Farewell team dinner


🗓️ Day 14: Departure from Gangotri

  • Drive back to Dehradun or onward travel
