🔍 Overview

The Black Peak Expedition, also known as Kalanag Expedition, is a technical and thrilling 6000+ meter summit climb located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. It is the highest peak in the Bandarpunch massif and offers panoramic views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Gangotri ranges.

This climb is perfect for experienced trekkers or mountaineers aiming to make a transition to technical peak climbing. The expedition involves glacier traverses, snow slopes, rope work, and a final summit push through ice and snow – a true alpine adventure.

📅 Day-Wise Itinerary & Description

🗓️ Day 1: Arrival in Sankri (1,950 m)

  • Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (~200 km, 8-9 hrs)

  • Meet team, gear check & briefing

  • Overnight in guesthouse/camp


🗓️ Day 2: Sankri to Taluka, trek to Seema (2,560 m)

  • Drive to Taluka (12 km), trek begins

  • Walk through pine forests along Supin River

  • Trek: 12 km | Duration: 6 hrs | Overnight in tents


🗓️ Day 3: Seema to Rainbasera (3,200 m)

  • Gradual ascent through lush meadows

  • Camp near river with snow-capped peaks visible

  • Trek: 9 km | Duration: 5 hrs


🗓️ Day 4: Rainbasera to Ruinsara Tal (3,600 m)

  • Trek to the sacred lake – Ruinsara Tal

  • Ideal for acclimatization & relaxation

  • Trek: 7 km | Duration: 4 hrs


🗓️ Day 5: Ruinsara Tal to Base Camp (4,000 m)

  • Move to Black Peak Base Camp

  • Briefing on climbing techniques and gear usage

  • Trek: 5 km | Duration: 4 hrs


🗓️ Day 6: Load Ferry to Summit Camp (Optional)

  • Acclimatization and load-carrying to higher altitude

  • Rope training, snow climbing practice

  • Return to base for overnight


🗓️ Day 7: Base Camp to Summit Camp (5,200 m)

  • Shift to summit camp with all equipment

  • Rest and prepare for final summit push

  • Duration: 4-5 hrs | Camp on snow


🗓️ Day 8: Summit Attempt (6,387 m) and back to Base Camp

  • Start summit push around midnight

  • Technical sections with rope, crampons, ice-axe

  • Summit views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch & beyond

  • Return to base after successful summit

  • Climb Duration: 10–14 hrs total


🗓️ Day 9: Buffer Day (Weather/Rest)

  • Reserved for weather delays or acclimatization


🗓️ Day 10: Base Camp to Seema

  • Long descent back through alpine meadows

  • Trek: 15 km | Duration: 7 hrs


🗓️ Day 11: Seema to Taluka, drive to Sankri

  • Final trekking day, farewell ceremony

  • Trek: 12 km | Drive: 12 km


🗓️ Day 12: Departure from Sankri

  • Drive to Dehradun, end of expedition

🎒 Things to Carry

  • 60–70L backpack with rain cover

  • Trekking & mountaineering boots (crampon-compatible)

  • Down jacket, thermals, waterproof outer shell

  • Climbing gear (ice axe, harness, gaiters – provided or rented)

  • Headlamp, UV sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 50+)

  • Warm gloves (inner & outer), wool socks (3-4 pairs)

  • Personal medical kit, toiletries, quick-dry towel

  • Trek pants (2-3), fleece jackets, woolen cap
